English Homework

The education minister cuts the class sizes of secondary schools in Hong Kong. He plans to reduce the size of form one classes from 40 to 38 next year and to 36 in 2010. This action is to solve the problem of closure in secondary schools. The action has good points and bad points. The good point is that it can keep more schools open and so there will be fewer teachers lose their jobs. The bad point that I think is the class sizes after the action is still be too big for some schools. Some elite schools are also against the action. And so I think Hong Kong government should establish different maximum sizes base on different schools’ needs. And I think that this action can’t improve the education quality too. There are still thirty students in a small classroom after the action and there may be a large range between the top student and the bottom student. And it will make teachers hard to teach the students.
I think the government can reduce the class sizes more, for example from 40 to 25 or under. Because this will first solve the problem of closure in schools. And second this will provide teachers more time to prepare their lessons as the numbers of books for them to mark are greatly reduced.
